What is TMD?

- When the TMJ isn’t aligned correctly there are a number of unpleasant symptoms people can experience.
- This is called Temporomandibular Joint Disorder, known as TMD.
Accurate diagnosis and effective treatment…
As prosthodontists, we are highly trained and experienced in diagnosing and productively addressing TMD. The treatment is usually very simple but can take multiple visits to complete.
What are the symptoms of TMD?
You may be so used to the discomfort TMD can cause that you’ve learnt to ignore it or you may not realise your symptoms are caused by misalignment of your TMJ. Some of these symptoms are:
- Headaches or migraines
- Jaw pain
- Clicking in the jaw
- Facial pain
- Sensitive or sore teeth
- Back, neck and shoulder pain
- Ringing in the ears
- Dizziness
In severe cases TMD can limit the foods that you can eat, decrease the amount you can open your mouth and interfere with daily activities.
